Technology and Manufacturing Trade delegation from Michigan visits Australia

On recommendation from the Michigan Economic Development Agency (MEDC), Foley & Associates Pty Ltd in Sydney was commissioned by Automation Alley - a leading non-profit technology and manufacturing business association in the State of Michigan – to assist with scheduling pre-qualified meetings for companies participating in the Automation Alley Trade Mission to Australia (27-30 March 2017).

The Trade Mission, led by Noel Nevshehir, Director of International Business Services at Automation Alley, was intended to provide participating companies with on-ground market intelligence regarding their product/service and open new doors to distribution, supply and/or collaboration.

To support each of the participating companies in-country, our office was tasked with qualifying shortlisted meeting targets to assess interest in and suitability to meet with each of the companies, and preparing a pre-qualified schedule of meetings with end-customers, partners and industry experts.

In the lead-up to the Trade Mission, our office conducted introductory teleconferences with 10+ Michigan companies and provided introductory market research and advice on their suitability to visit the market.

In total, four (4) companies, identified below, participated in the Trade Mission.

  •         MPI (Managed Programs)
  •         Fullerton Tools
  •         Logo Logistics

As part of our support and engagement in the Trade Mission, our office attended a welcome briefing in Sydney, organised for representatives from our office to travel to Melbourne to provide on-ground support, attend networking events and join several company meetings. We also supported the visit by preparing and publishing a promotional story on our company website, and by circulating a company profile document to key industry groups and government representatives in the market.

Outcomes and Results

In summary, our office scheduled 56 meetings on behalf of the Automation Alley companies as part of the visit to the region (~14 meetings per company). 

In addition to scheduling meetings in the official Trade Mission cities of Melbourne and Sydney, our office also scheduled meetings in other major Australian cities (i.e. Newcastle – NSW, Brisbane & Gold Coast – Queensland, Adelaide – South Australia, Geelong – Victoria) to ensure each of the participating companies maximised their time and had the opportunity to meet with companies most aligned with their individual industries and business development objectives for the visit.

Upon the delegations return to Michigan, our office received a letter of thank you and commendation from Automation Alley of which an astract is below:

We received outstanding feedback from our company participants regarding their extremely productive matchmaking meetings that you and your team arranged for them. We will be sure to share with you the amount of new sales generated as a direct result of your efforts”.
