Virginia Trade Delegation visits Australia to exhibit at Pacific 2013, network and complete individual meeting programs.

In 2013, the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Authorized Trade Representative in Australia and New Zealand, Foley & Associates (www.foley.net.au), was selected by the Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) to host a Trade Mission to Australia.

It was agreed that the Trade Mission would take place from 7-11 October 2013 to coincide with the Pacific 2013 International Maritime Exposition in Sydney (7-9 October) – the commercial maritime and naval defence showcase for the Asia Pacific region. VEDP invited companies to participate in the trade mission, exhibit at the booth and sign up individual meeting program over the duration of the week.

In all, eight companies registered for the Trade Mission and our office scheduled 70 meetings for the participating mission companies.

Our office assisted in working the stand at the event and also arranged a number of extra networking and business events or the mission participants to increase their exposure to the Australian business and government communities. These events included introductions to government/defence decision makers from New South Wales, Victoria & South Australia alongside industry events tailored to a company’s specific area of expertise.

Outcomes and Results

The highlight of the mission was the confirmation from a mission company that they had agreed an exclusive distributor agreement as a result of the visit to Australia. Other mission companies also submitted sales and tender proposals as a direct result of meetings during the mission.
