Case Study: Market Visit - Delaware Trade Mission to Australia

Overview

Multi-Sector Trade Delegation from Delaware Visits Australia

Foley & Associates was commissioned by Export Delaware to assist with the scheduling of pre-qualified meetings for five (5) Delaware companies with expertise in a broad range of sectors, as part of an official Trade Mission to Australia from 4 - 7 June, 2018.

The Delaware companies that participated in the delegation were:

  • Batta Environmental (Environmental consulting and water filtration);
  • B&W Tek (law enforcement & security);
  • Miles Scientific (scientific and medical consumables);
  • Mymedchoices (telehealth); and
  • REX Company (smart cities). 

The aim of the Trade Mission (led by Beth Pomper, Export Advisor to the State of Delaware) was to provide the companies with on-the-ground market intelligence and to explore new opportunities for distribution, representation, trials and/or collaboration in the Australian market.

In the lead up to the trade mission, our office conducted several teleconferences with the Delaware companies to discuss their priorities and ideal meeting target criteria. Our office worked closely with each of the Trade Mission delegates throughout the planning phase, providing regular updates on any relevant feedback we received.

Outcomes and Results

Overall, our office organised a full four day schedule of high quality meetings for each of the trade mission delegates, spanning major Australian cities (i.e. Sydney (New South Wales), Melbourne (Victoria), Canberra (Australian Capital Territory), Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast (Queensland)), in addition to regional areas including Bendigo (Victoria) and Logan (Queensland).

The meetings scheduled by Foley & Associates included introductions with private sector companies, consultants, government departments, industry associations, local government councils and universities. As a direct result of the meeting scheduled by our office, several of the delegates have continued discussions with Australian organisations that they met whilst in Australia, and are in the progress of pursuing opportunities to enter and expand their presence in the Australian market. 

The trade mission has also directly resulted in sales for some of the Delaware companies that participated. 

Our office has been in contact with the trade mission delegates since their return to Delaware, and we look forward to the opportunity to provide continued assistance and support for the companies in the Australian market. Recently, Foley & Associates' Managing Director, Angela Foley, visited Delaware to meet with several Delaware companies and to participate in the Export Delaware 'Bringing Australia, Ireland and the UK to Delaware' workshop on September 5, 2018.
