Sofia Ceseña – International Marketing Coordinator
Sofia originally joined Foley & Associates Pty Ltd in 2007 as part of an internship program with Macquarie University in Sydney when she was completing her Master of Commerce in Business. She had previously completed a Bachelor of International Commerce in Mexico.
Sofia was born and educated in Mexico and also lived in Canada prior to moving to Australia. While she originally came to Australia for her studies she decided to stay on following the completion of her Master of Commerce in Business degree and a Diploma in Finance so that she could work in the international business field.
Prior to arriving in Australia Sofia worked as an Assistant Manager with an engineering firm in Mexico, INTERMAQ, which acted as a distributor/agent for a number of worldwide brands from the U.S., England, Taiwan, Korea and China.
In that role, she gained experience coordinating purchase orders for machinery and spare parts, monitoring import processes, preparing quotations and completing technical English-Spanish translations for company catalogs.
She was also responsible for maintaining a strong relationship with the company’s international suppliers and coordinated the company’s presence at major machine tool and other industrial shows both in Mexico and in the U.S.
Prior to her role at INTERMAQ, Sofia worked as an Import-Export Assistant with a customs agency in Guadalajara, Mexico, which had strong maritime operations in the port of Manzanillo. In this role Sofia worked both with clients and with executives at Manzanillo port to speed up the customs process. She was responsible for preparing quotations, calculating taxes and duties and managing the required import-export documentation on behalf of the company’s client base.
Since completing her internship with Foley & Associates Pty Ltd back in 2007 Sofia has worked on a part-time basis with the company where she primarily has a focus on completing primary and secondary marketing research across industry sectors. She has a particular competency in working with clients in the industrial, defense, mining and technology sectors. She first moved to Australia in 2006. She is fluent in both English and Spanish and on her spare time enjoys swimming, yoga and travelling.
