Angela Foley – Founder & Managing Director
Angela is the Founding Director of Foley & Associates Pty Ltd. She established the company in 2002 with the objective of providing international trade advice to American organizations seeking to do business in Australia and New Zealand.
That same year the company was successful in winning a tender to act as the representative office, in Australia and New Zealand, for the Council of Great Lakes Governors, whereby Foley & Associates was required to provide international trade advice and support to exporting companies from the Great Lakes region of North America. Under the Council’s umbrella, Foley & Associates’ key client has been the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania whereby the office in Sydney has provided assistance to a large number of Pennsylvania exporting organizations across a wide range of industry sectors over the past seven years.
Following direct referrals from State Government International Trade Development Departments, Foley & Associates has also provided international trade support to exporters from Minnesota, Ohio, Wisconsin and New York (all Great Lakes States) along with support to private companies from other American States (most notably Utah and Kentucky). The support provided has included detailed market research, pre-qualification of business partners, completing competitive analysis, hosting American State promotional booths at industry specific trade shows in Australia (e.g. CeBIT; AusBiotech) and coordinating in-country visits by individual American exporters and groups of exporting companies (e.g. multi-State trade missions from Ohio, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania in 2006 and 2009) to Australia and New Zealand.
Angela’s professional background includes international business development experience in Ireland, Germany, the U.K. and Australia. She has previously worked as the Senior Group Manager, Trade & Commercial Services at the State Chamber of Commerce, New South Wales where she managed the World Trade Centre, Sydney and a network of 330 Chambers of Commerce across the state. Before joining the Chamber, Angela was instrumental in establishing the Sydney 2000 Olympic Commerce Centre to assist Australian businesses maximize the opportunities generated by Australia’s hosting of the Olympic Games. Angela has also worked as a Senior Marketing Analyst – Asia Pacific for a British-American supply chain software company. Prior to re-locating to Australia, in 1995, she spent eight years as a Senior Business Development Manager with the Australian Trade Commission in London where she had a particular focus on assisting Australian technology exporters to win business in the U.K., Ireland and mainland Europe. Her previous experience also includes working in both Ireland and Germany in the marketing/communication sectors and as a freelance technical translator/interpreter. Angela has an honors degree in Applied Linguistics from Dublin City University (Ireland) and postgraduate qualifications in International Marketing and Management from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (U.K.). She has also received a Certificate in Translation Studies from the University of Mainz in Germany. She is a member of a number of industry organizations in Australia and New Zealand and is an accomplished presenter on the American-Australian/New Zealand trade relationship. Angela has dual Irish and Australian citizenship.
